The pain of learning new things

When I worked as a study abroad advisor at Montana State University, summer was when I had time to try new things or learn new skills. Sometimes it was easy. Most of the time, it was not. And the pain of learning new things is often a barrier to giving that new thing a try.

It’s on my mind because I’m learning new things.

I’m slowly and painfully learning how to create more short content videos for some of our social media platforms. This is well outside of my wheelhouse, but I think it could be a valuable avenue for connecting and growing our audience. So, I’m experimenting with this new content.

I’ve spent more time learning this new skill than I care to admit. Part of the pain of the learning journey is that I’m reusing content and it’s not always recorded in the vertical format needed. Another part of the pain is that I’m using a new software tool.

And we all know what learning new software can be like.
