Be where you are first
Over the last few months, I’ve spent a lot of time regrouping. It’s why this quote from Amy Poehler resonates so much with me: “You have to be where you are to get where you need to go.”
In the summer of 2020, I started working full-time while also (poorly) trying to give Cascadin attention. I felt passionate about the mission of my job. I gave my whole self to it.
The work was also incredibly stressful. In the end, I knew I had done what I could, and I needed to put myself first. I’m very proud of what I did. And I’m very grateful to be back at Cascadin.
The transition back, though, hasn’t been without struggle. It took me a while to let go of the previous work (and I might still be in that process). It took time to see where my role was with Cascadin. I had to know where I was first. I had to find myself again.
It’s a journey. One I’m still on. But, there’s one thing I’ve learned already. One of the reasons I was stretched so thin before is that I was trying to do too much. It’s why our new outlook of “do less, better” is also my new mantra.
I’m learning how to do less, better. I want to help you to do less, better. It’s why we started Cascadin in the first place. So, Amy Poehler is right.
“You have to be where you are to get where you need to go.”
